Your Surgery
Upon arrival at the Surgery Center on the day of your procedure, you will be welcomed and escorted to the admissions area. There a nurse will verify your medical information, allergies, and medications, and prepare you for surgery. We provide warmed blankets and pillows to ensure you are comfortable while you and an anesthesia provider discuss your medical background and the type of anesthesia you will be given. Following surgery, you will return to the patient care area where a recovery nurse will monitor your condition. The nurse will then invite your designated driver to rejoin you. Once your driver is present, the nurse will talk you through any home care instructions.
Before Surgery
Do NOT eat, drink, or chew anything after midnight unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. This includes gum, mints, candy, chewing tobacco, and snuff.
Fill out your paperwork. You will be given a packet of patient forms when you schedule your surgery. Please fill these out and bring the entire packet with you on surgery day. These forms are also available on our Patient Information page. You are welcome to call or visit the center if you have questions or need assistance with this paperwork.
Day of Surgery
Do NOT eat, drink or chew anything after midnight unless instructed otherwise by your doctor. You may take usual morning medications with a sip of water. You may also brush your teeth and rinse your mouth with water, but do not swallow any while doing so.
If you are an insulin-dependent diabetic or taking blood-thinning medication (aspirin, Coumadin, Plavix, etc.), talk with your prescribing doctor for additional instructions.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing and flat shoes or sneakers (no heals, hikers, or boots). Leave valuables, watches, and jewelry at home. If you wear glasses or contacts, bring a case to store them in. Do not wear makeup.
Bring a responsible adult driver who is willing to remain onsite while you are in surgery. We will then confirm a working cell phone number at check-in. For your safety, we will reschedule your surgery for a later date if you do not bring a driver willing to stay. Additionally, though we want our patients to be as comfortable as possible, restricted space requires us to ask that you bring only one person with you to your surgery. However, if the patient is a child, both parents are welcome.
Bring your insurance and/or Medicare cards and your completed patient forms.
